Sonic's Third Movie "Takes A Lot" From Sonic Adventure 2, Says Producer

As much as I like to make fun of Sonic, the fans are eating, and this movie looks to be making really smart decisions.
I just want another great Sonic game. It's been a long time, and I don't count a single 3D entry as "great." I wonder if the series could reach the heights of the best Mario games. I'd love to see it.

Even though I think that was an easy guess from shadow and them playing live and learn during the movies announcement (and the fact that the logo is a reference to two) this is still great to hear! I hope this means we might see a new character other than shadow! Like rouge or Amy!

Seeing as they did Knuckles justice in the Sonic 2 movie, I'd be shocked if they didn't adapt the key parts of Shadow's backstory and character arc from SA2 into the Sonic 3 movie.

SA2B was by far the best sonic game for me, I was hopefully with Frontiers that it might be close and whilst it was on the right path, it felt more like a PC mod than a sonic game. They should just do a full-on remake of SA2B, and maybe SA too

I've spent countless hours farming those little animals for my Chao Garden to create the best possible Chao.

I thought that's obvious though i wish they did sonic adventure 3 already since first 2 games were so good.

@LikelySatan they could reach those heights if they would stick to a formula that works and improve that.

The problem with sonic games is that they switch things up completely with every 3D game. Nintendo always stick to a safe template. They use what works and improve on that with the 3d titles. The downside to that is that you get games that don't change that much but you do have the best gameplay, and that's what matters in both Mario and Sonic titles.

I hope Sonic team starts taking the Nintendo roadmap. Sticking to a formula and tweak that to perfection.

I mean, the way they've campaigned this by using the SA:2 logo / live and learn music made that obvious - but it's a relief to see they are taking a lot from it anyway. Still one of the best Sonic stories IMO.

The Knuckles series appears to be a winner in the critical reviews so I got high hopes for Sonic 3. They've improved with every entry so far in building this universe so I hope they keep the momentum going.

Hopefully Nintendo are taking notes for their future projects.

Welp, Im out then. SA2 plot was aweful and a mess.

I mean, it is Shadow's debut game, of course they will take a lot from this game.

@Martijn87 that's what I said when everyone kept saying "Frontiers is a great foundation." Sure. Maybe Sega will finally do that.

@Bratwurst35 I love the game to death, did everything available including all the grinding in the Chao Garden when I was a kid, but the plot is indeed terrible, it takes away from the game all in all

@LikelySatan Frontiers is a great foundation. Just remove everything outside the Cyber Levels and go from there.

@Fangleman32 could be misreading but surely you meant the opposite, right? I mean, the cyberspace levels are hardly the foundation of the game - especially since Sonic Team intend to build upon the open zone format for future entries.

Not surprised. I guess that all but guarantees that we will get a rendition of Live and Learn late in the movie. I guess we'll have to wait until the release of the third movie before we know the fate of Jim Carrey playing Eggman for a 4th outing since he's trying to retire. It sounds like they want to continue this series on, but if Jim Carrey isn't doing the role, which helped make this series as good as it is, I don't know how well it'll be able to hold up. One thing at a time I suppose.

@LikelySatan @Martijn87 That is what they're doing. The director said Frontiers is their foundation for the next 10 years at least, and it's been recently reported that a direct sequel is coming. I wouldn't be surprised if we hear about it next year, Sega have finally started giving Sonic Team a bigger budget after Frontiers came out and they've apparently hiring a lot of new staff. The other big problem with the series has often been a smaller team with a tight budget being rushed to hit a deadline.
